Daruk may come off as a slow, unreliable option, but the Goron champion is actually THE BEST character in the game. He is actually a pretty fast attacker and he can get around the map pretty quickly. Getting an extremely strong Boulder Breaker is pretty easy, too. Mine was 162 at level 30 (with attack up +10), where it also gained a ghastly buff, "Heal by Defeating Enemies". His new DLC weapon, Steadfast Champion's Greatsword, is not nearly as powerful but it still gets an incredible buff: "Damage Reflected when Guarding 20%". And Daruk's Protection is the best defense in the game, as I know of only two attacks that can get through it. And a lot of foes have high attack power, making Daruk an extreme Lynel fighter with the damage reflect. Offensively, Daruk is a monster as well. His weapon has some nice range, so if the enemies are all conveniently close together, he can take out about 40 in one or two attacks with a 100+ power weapon. He has some great later-game combos as well. One of his attacks summons magma balls to come out of the sky and land at Daruk's feet, creating magma pillars where they landed (he can make the magma explode with his unique action). This attack actually damages weak-point gauges even when they are not exposed. Speaking of weak point gauges, I have seen Daruk take out an entire 5 sections out of 6 sections in a single attack. Daruk is an all-around MONSTER who can take out anything quickly (For example- Silver Moblin=10 seconds or less).
Strengths: Weak-Point gauge, Outposts, Time Limited Combat Trials.
Main Weakness: Too large- a big target is easier to hit.
The Zora champion is a quick spear fighter who will completely destroy a weak-point gauge with her attacks, but there are other things that make her great. Mipha's special ability is to shoot up from a spring of water, damaging nearby enemies. And, since this attack is like a black hole, pulling enemies in, it is great for large groups of weak enemies. Outposts are a great way to use this, but don't try it against powerful enemies. She is great with those even without her water-jumping, and all those Moblins would just love to swat you out of the air. Defensively, she's pretty small so she can dodge nicely. And of course, there's her special attack. The only difference between this and other special attacks is that it will heal Mipha, an incredibly useful add-on. Mipha is a reliable option in any situation in-game.
Strengths: Outposts, Support (healing allies), regular attack combos without strong attacks.
Main Weakness: Fighting weak and strong enemies at once.
Urbosa is an amazing clearer of weak enemies, one of the top 3 in the game (the other two are Monk Maz Koshia and Teba). She's also a great option if you are all-out offense and like to beat opponents attacks with speed instead. She is extremely quick when you are using her combos that summon lightning. She gets around the battlefield pretty quickly, too. Fighting strong enemies however, is a minor issue for Urbosa. But if you get her weapon a seal that boosts attack speed, she can get in enough attacks in the time that she has to take out gauges as well as any other character. Defensively, she does not have the best shield but she is so fast that she can dart around enemy attacks without much trouble. However, she is not great against Lynels who have amazing attack speed. So, she and Daruk are one of the best duos to take to battle.
Strengths: Weak enemies, agility, creating Flurry Rush chances.
Main Weakness: Lynels.
Hyrule's most powerful shrine monk is a playable character in Age Of Calamity, and this is great for players! Koshia is an offensive machine who has great speed, can demolish all kinds of foes, and has monster combos. The biggest concern with him is defense. He's great at getting flurry rushes and can still dart out of the way even if he doesn't get the flurry rush. But if he gets hit, you are in trouble. And his guard is one of the easier ones to get though, so don't try that. Just try and get out of the way. But on offense, this character has no weaknesses at all. He gets around quickly, and while using his sprinting strong attack (press x while sprinting on Nintendo Switch) he is the fastest character in the game. Most of the good combos are late game for usual characters, but Koshia's best is actually using the strong attack after just a single regular attack. And after using it Koshia gets a charge for his unique action, which is to grow huge and pound a hammer onto opponents. This attack will defeat almost all visible monsters in an outpost. As for opponents, the super-combo I mentioned earlier will deal with weak ones and the sprinting strong attack will help you do damage and dodge at the same time until the weak-point gauge comes out. If you need offense, go to Monk Maz Koshia.
Strengths: Weak enemies, strong enemies, outposts.
Man Weakness: Guarding ability.
